Trey Mills suffers late-race heartbreak in Wieland Winternationals Finale with Lucas Dirt
On Wednesday afternoon, Trey Mills joined the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series at Golden Isles Speedway (Waynesville, Ga.) for the final four days of the Wieland Winternationals as the tour finished up their 2026 Speedweeks.
Trey missed the cut-off on opening night, but rebounded on Thursday evening as he picked up a runner-up finish in his heat and finished 14th in the A-Main. Mills snagged the final transfer spot in a heat race on Friday and ran 22nd in the main event.
Trey was poised for his best run of the weekend on Saturday evening after he qualified second-fastest in his group and earned a fourth-row starting position in the 50-lap finale. With $25,000 on the line, Mills powered towards the front and took the lead on lap 15. Trey led 27 circuits and traded sliders with Hudson O'Neal before he hit the wall and flipped wildly while leading with less than ten laps to go. Mills was unhurt and wound up 15th in the final running order.
